Telstar Recalls Energy Saving Light Bulbs Due to Fire Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recently announced a voluntary recall of approximately 317,000 Telstar Energy saving light bulbs manufactured by Telstar Products, d/b/a Spring International Inc. The recalled bulbs are sold under the Telstar and Electra brand names and sold in both the spiral and 3-U shape bulbs for various 20 and 23 watt models. The recall comes after complaints of the bulbs overheating, posing a risk of fire and fire hazard to consumers. Two fires have been reported, one resulting in a residential fire. Consumers and retailers have been advised to stop using and selling these products immediately. Consumers are advised to return the bulbs where purchased for a full refund. The bulbs were sold throughout New York and New Jersey from August 2010 through March 2011.
